A Unit Project: For the Birds

Because of a certain little Robin Bird that decided to build a nest on our gutter we had quite an interest in birds throughout the spring. We watched as the mother sat on her eggs, to them hatching, and the most fun was watching the mother feed worms to her babies. Soon they grew up and we watched as they practiced flying and eventually left an empty nest. So throughout this we did a different thing each day to learn more and have fun with birds. We made a book with bird stickers, practiced writing bird related words, drew our observations of the birds and there nest. We collected things in our yard to make a nest like the bird with watered down glue, grass, sticks, weeds etc... From the Martha Stewart line we made balloon birds and pom pom birds and once the real nest fell had lots of fun playing "pretend" birds in a real nest. Tweeterific Fun!!!

Cooking Class:

Mason learned how to and cooked himself scrambled eggs, with close supervision of course.

Fruit Salad yummy yummy!

Celery Mitosis, place celery stalks in cups with differant colored water made with food coloring and the stalks will absorb the respective colors.

Cereal box Memory Game-or in this case Ritz Crackers and Fruit Snacks box Memory Game. Just recycled the boxes by cutting them up in circles and yes Mason got to cut too. Then just match the circles that belong to the box.

Happy Easter Feet

dip feet in paint, press on paper add a bunny face

Letter Egg Hunt

Wrote random letters on paper and put in eggs. Then hid eggs in yard for boys to find. Once they found the eggs I had them name the letter and sound after they opened each one.

Vase

Paper maschae vase-water down glue, rip up fun paper and plaster in empty jar. Then make pipe cleaner flowers they never die:)

Dear Glitter, you usually really scare me because of the horrible mess you leave but when I saw this project on Kids Kraft Weekly I couldn't resist you.

*Dip cookie cutters in glue

* stamp on paper

*sprinkle that evil glitter and hope it doesn't get in eyes, hair and cracks in the hardwood.
